The 54th Budweiser Classic Weekend was interrupted for the third consecutive day on Sunday as a lake effect rain system settled in over the Oswego area. On Saturday, only the ATQMRA feature was completed with Donnie Adams picking up his second consecutive win in that event. On Friday the Super Cruise and Party in the Pits fell victim to the weather. Saturday it was the the ISMA Super Nationals and SBS Bud Light Classic were put on hold.

In what started out with just an engine has grown into one of the strongest teams currently racing in the supermodified division at Oswego Speedway.  Bill Samuels and Bob Hoefer started out their team by purchasing a motor from Otto Sitterly, and with just that motor, no car, no driver, just a couple of dreams, built Double Deuce Racing.

“I thought back to our first day, when we showed up with a limited supermodified, and an old broken down Ford truck parked between two big rigs, and thought “here we are”.  One of the guys I was with said, “Is anyone else intimidated?  Yeah, we all were,” is how defending Classic champ Otto Sitterly described the first night he pulled a race car through the hallowed gates of Oswego Speedway. “But, we’re a race team, and we try to succeed, we want to succeed.,” Nobody puts pressure on Otto Sitterly, like Otto Sitterly.”

In just eight short years, Dave Cliff and Gnomey Racing have put themselves into some pretty elite company.  Coming into Classic Weekend 2010, they are once again among the favorites for the checkered flag in the SBS Bud Light Classic 100-lap event.  Dave is a two-time winner of the SBS Classic, taking the wins in 2008 and ’09.

Jeff Holbrook likes to do things in a big way.  Whether it is work or racing related, go big or go home seems to be the motto. Each car owner comes into Classic Weekend looking for a chance to take home a win.  Jeff not only has a chance to take home a win this weekend, he has four. Holbrook Racing has three entries ready to go for the Saturday ISMA show, while Sunday, they are focusing their efforts on one driver, and one car.

If you Google the term “race car driver” the next time you turn on your computer, don’t be surprised to see a picture of Bobby Bond come up first.  Ever since watching his first laps at Oswego Speedway as a boy growing up, he knew he wanted to drive a racecar.  Even today, as he put it, “I just always wanted to go faster, doesn’t matter what it was, I just wanted to go faster.”  Doesn’t that sound like a perfect definition of racecar driver?

After taking the checkered flag for the Bud Light B Main back in 1986, little did 26 year old Dave McKnight, Jr. know what he had store in him for the next 25 years.  Turn ahead to this weekends 2010 International Classic, the very same Dave McKnight will buckle in for his 25th consecutive International Classic.

When was the last time you saw Pat Abold, Eddie Bellinger or Doug Heveron on the track at the Oswego Speedway?  Hall of Famers Davey Hamilton and Bentley Warren, both of whom will be racing this weekend, will join Abold, Bellinger, Heveron, Greg Furlong and Joe Gosek as the Oswego Speedway presents the first ever Ride with the Legends. 

The Oswego Speedway announces a return tradition as the annual awards banquet moves to the start of the racing season beginning in 2011. The tentatively announced date for October 23rd has officially been dropped from the 2010 schedule.

The complete “Twin Feature” schedule of events at the Oswego Speedway for August 21st first was not able to be completed. Subsequently, the Oswego Speedway has announced a credit on tickets for Classic Weekend for all grandstand and pit fans that purchased a ticket for the shortened event.
