Bob Andrews and Barry Kingsley Join Forces for New SBS Team at Oswego in 75th Anniversary Season

OSWEGO, NY (March 25, 2026) – A familiar name in the Pathfinder Bank SBS division is set to return to Oswego Speedway in a new role, as former competitor Bob Andrews has announced his return to racing as a car owner with the purchase of the former No. 04 SBS from Rich Wirth. Andrews will team with veteran driver Barry Kingsley for the 2026 season in a newly numbered No. 52 entry.

“Purchasing a race car came as a surprise to me; I was not actively seeking one, but then Rich called me one day and we made a deal!” Andrews said. “I always said if and when I returned to racing, it would have to be in the model of my friend, John Nicotra: picking the right person to run the team and race it. My business eats most of my time, and I am just not able to put an effort into fielding a race car.”

Andrews’ decision to partner with Kingsley came together quickly, but naturally.

“Barry checks all the boxes for us: talented, experienced driver, talented in the garage, knows the cars inside and out, and has the ability and willingness to do what it takes to field a competitive operation…and he brings with him a skilled and devoted crew,” Andrews added. “There are so many talented drivers that I would love to give a chance, but it’s hard to find somebody with all of those attributes. And as a bonus, Barry is a dear personal friend that I know I can trust. To say that I’m excited about becoming an active part of the racing community, where I spent so much of my life, would be an understatement.”

Kingsley, who had initially seen Andrews’ purchase mentioned casually on social media, was not originally part of the plan – but a chance visit changed everything.

“I heard Bob bought the car and didn’t have any plans, and posted on Facebook that he was looking for pieces and parts, and I just happened to bring one over. I had a wheel left from my SBS with the right quick release on it,” Kingsley explained. “So I went over to his dealership and checked to make sure it was the right thing. I sat in the car and put the steering wheel on it and said, ‘you know Bob, I fit pretty well…I can help with some weekly expenses and have some guys that can help out.’ I made him the offer and he thought about it for a couple minutes. Twenty minutes later he called and said let’s team up.”

The partnership will follow a flexible, racer-first model.

“Tentative plans are basically on a play-it-by-ear basis. Barry is the boss. As John does with Otto, we’ll do as much or as little as Barry wants,” Andrews said. “Barry still has his 350 operation, but his plans for that were very limited for this coming season. Getting into our SBS car is a perfect fit.”

    Kingsley echoed that approach.

“My whole career has been week-to-week racing. If we have a good week and can afford to race next week, then we’ll race next week,” he said. “We’ll probably sign up for the commitment program and it gives you a little bit of bonus money when you are on it. The plan is to put another car on the race track and have fun.”

Currently, the car is undergoing a transformation in the shop of longtime crew member and fabricator Paul Stepien, receiving an entirely new set of sheet metal. “It goes without saying that it will be beautiful when Paul gets done,” Andrews said.

The car will carry No. 52, a tribute to Andrews’ family business, Dave and Bob’s Service, founded in 1952 by his father and uncle Dave. The business has operated continuously for 74 years, with Andrews taking over in 1984.

“There are plenty of used car dealers that sell more expensive cars, and plenty of brand new car dealers; we specialize in the most challenging segment, which is the lower priced vehicles,” Andrews said. “It’s a lot more work, and a lot more risk, but I heard a saying a long time ago, don’t fall in love with your business, fall in love with your customer and that simply means, find the vehicles the customers need and want. We can get you anything you want, from low price transportation, to any type of collector vehicle, up to late model used cars and even high dollar Blue Chip investment cars. I’ve spent my entire life in this business, and with over 50 years experience I still love what I do. I spent over 40 years in racing too, I’ll always have a love for racing, and I’m really looking forward to being an active part of it again.”

For Kingsley, the return to SBS competition represents both comfort and opportunity.

“I’ve always loved the SBS race cars since I first drove them. I feel I can be a little bit more competitive in that class than the 350 Super,” he said. “I feel a little over my head in the 350 class in race car preparation, talent, time, money, and knowledge. It takes a lot. I’ve had a few good runs at Oswego, but I’ve gone out of town and been more competitive and just had a lot more fun.”

Kingsley brings a deep and diverse résumé back to the division. His Pathfinder Bank SBS career includes two feature victories, and he is a former Mr. SBS winner, earning that title in 2011 while piloting his own No. 23 machine.

“I was as shocked as everybody to win those races,” Kingsley said of his breakthrough victory and Mr. SBS title. “Everything just fell together that first night in 2010. I had never even recorded a top-five finish before that. That first win definitely stands out as the most memorable moment of my career, with Mr. SBS, of course, being the biggest accomplishment.”

Kingsley later competed full-time in the Jason Simmons-owned Hedger Chassis No. 91 in 2014 and 2015, equipment he described as “top-of-the-line,” with several strong runs, before purchasing it himself to race from 2016 through 2018. Now, for the first time in his career, Kingsley will compete on a regular basis in a potent FFB Chassis, the former Anthony Losurdo track championship car.

“I know it’s different, and I’m really leaning on Paul Stepien and Oley Johnson for their expertise and knowledge,” Kingsley added. Barry’s most recent SBS start came at Spencer Speedway in 2024, competing in a Jeff Carson-prepared Hedger entry, with his most recent SBS start at the Oswego Speedway coming in 2018.

In addition to his two feature wins, Kingsley also has five third-place finishes, two runner-up efforts, and 14 career top-five finishes in the Pathfinder Bank SBS division.

His career has spanned numerous teams and chassis, including time with Simmons, Chris Tedd, and others, along with the years of fielding his own equipment from 2006 through 2011 and again from 2016 through 2018.

Kingsley was also one of the original competitors to move into the 350 Supermodified division in 2019, driving the green No. 06 for Craig Soper in both 2019 and 2021. He finished second in points in 2019 and fifth in 2021, with a best career finish of second in 2019 and a third-place result in 2021, totaling two podium finishes in 350 Supermodified competition.

After stepping away from competition in 2022 and 2023, Kingsley returned to the track in 2024 and 2025 with his own No. 91 350 Supermodified, finishing seventh and sixth in points, respectively, while piloting the former Ralph Clark No. 5.

During his time away from driving, Kingsley remained active in the sport, joining Hall of Famer Roy Sova in the Oswego Speedway broadcast booth to call SBS races.

Kingsley also continues to maintain a 350 Supermodified presence, though plans remain flexible.

“Nothing concrete, but I’ll race when and where we can,” he said of his 350 Super. “One concrete plan I have is going to Toledo for the opening OSS race. I don’t know if I’ll be able to run that car at Oswego weekly or not.”

Barry’s 350 Supermodified experience spanned multiple tracks and touring groups in 2025, including Oswego, Sandusky, Star, Monadnock, and the 350 SMAC series, where he earned recognition such as the SMAC “Be Like Barry” Sportsmanship Award. Known for his willingness to support events across all tracks and sanctioning bodies, Kingsley has become a respected and familiar presence wherever the 350s compete.

“The Ohio and SMAC series have been so welcoming,” Kingsley said. “When I went to Star they were so thrilled to have me race, and ironically it was my worst race of the year. On-track results aren’t always there, but we’re still having a lot of fun. As a small, privately funded team, we definitely don’t have a lot of dollars, and it means a lot that people notice what we are doing with the 350.”

The Andrews-Kingsley SBS effort will also include support from a close-knit group of contributors, including Ashley Lynn Winery, longtime supporters of Kingsley, as well as Paul Stepien, Oley Johnson, Mark and Jacob Sledziona, and others.

In addition, the team hopes to provide a unique opportunity later this season.

“We’d like to do a Fast Friday at some point and let Jacob get some laps and have some fun,” Kingsley said. “He’s 22, graduating college from SUNY Geneseo, never raced anything but has helped on the crew for years. It’s a way to say thank you.”

As the 2026 season approaches, both Andrews and Kingsley are focused on building a competitive, sustainable program while enjoying the process.

“We look forward to welcoming back long-time sponsors, and will be seeking a little bit more to help us make sure we can do it right, and field a program that will make our partners proud,” Andrews said. “Sponsorship announcements coming soon!”

With a healthy blend of experience and passion, the Andrews–Kingsley No. 52 team is poised to add another compelling storyline to the Pathfinder Bank SBS division in Oswego Speedway’s 75th Anniversary season.

Opening Night on Saturday, May 30 will feature the Oswego Super Challenge opener for the ISMA/MSS Winged Supermodifieds in a 50-lap, $6,000-to-win main event, along with the highly anticipated Pathfinder Bank SBS Ray Hedger Memorial, a 33-lap special paying $1,333 to win. The Oswego County Tourism 350 Supermodifieds will also kick off their season with a 30-lap feature paying $2,000 to win, while the Classic Asphalt Modified Series will appear with a 10-lap exhibition.
