Mike Bruce Back and Better Than Ever After Crash, Ready to Chase Mr. Oswego County Tourism 350 Supermodified Title
OSWEGO, NY (August 8, 2025) - Before the 2025 Oswego Speedway season even got rolling, veteran driver Mike Bruce - a winner in the Novelis Supermodified, Pathfinder Bank SBS, and Oswego County Tourism 350 Supermodified divisions, suffered a terrifying setback.
During Fast Friday testing on June 13, a stuck throttle on his No. 22 Supermodified led to one of the most frightening crashes in recent memory. The violent impact totaled Bruce’s car and sent him to the hospital with fractures in his back, forcing him to sit out much of the summer.
On Wednesday, less than two months later, Bruce was officially cleared by Upstate Neurology to return to racing. He wasted no time jumping back into his Hawk Chassis 350 Supermodified and immediately showed he hadn’t missed a beat, posting one of the fastest laps of the season with a 16.954-second run during tonight’s Fast Friday testing.
Back doing what he loves with the $2,000 Mr. Oswego County Tourism 350 Supermodified title on the line tomorrow, Bruce is fired up and ready to compete.
“I’m just excited to get back to what I've always done,” Bruce said. “Since I started racing at Oswego Speedway in 2010, trying to be the best is all I've ever known. Sitting on the sidelines has been tough these last few weeks. I’ve enjoyed working with my nephews on their 350 cars, but it’s not the same as driving and winning races.”
The road to recovery was certainly not easy, but Bruce credits the support of family, friends, and fans for keeping his spirits high during the toughest moments. Their encouragement helped fuel his determination to return stronger than ever.
“Super appreciative of everyone’s support over the last couple months, especially my girlfriend Carlee and my brother Robbo, both of them definitely made my life easier while I was out of commission,” Bruce mentioned. “I’m excited to get back on the track with my fellow competitors, my teammates, and all of our supporting sponsors.”
