Carl Crawford Returns to Super Stock Racing at Oswego Speedway; Joins Children CJ and Tessa for Historic Family Milestone June 14

OSWEGO, NY (June 2, 2025) - A familiar name will return to the driver’s seat at Oswego Speedway on Saturday, June 14, as Carl Crawford makes a comeback to Super Stock racing as part of the newly formed GTR Super Stock Series 4-Race Mini Series.

Crawford, a former Budweiser Classic Weekend Super Stock champion in 2004, will not only be back behind the wheel for the first time in nearly two decades, but he'll do so alongside his children - CJ and Tessa Crawford - in what will be a historic first: a father, son, and daughter all competing on the same night at Oswego Speedway.

“I think this series Jody London is doing is really cool,” Crawford said. “It’s great the Speedway brought the Super Stocks back. The Dave London Memorial is always a great show. A lot of cars, and the fans seem to enjoy having them here, so seeing the division return is exciting.”

Crawford has six career Super Stock wins at Oswego and over 15 top-five finishes, making him one of the division’s most accomplished competitors during its original run. He last competed regularly in 2006, a time when Super Stocks were, in his words, "ahead of their time."

“You had the ROC Series running the old Monte Carlos and stock bodies,” he recalled. “We were allowed to run more modern aftermarket bodies. It looked a little cooler, more relatable to the fans. If you look at where things are now with NYSS or the London Series, it’s kind of what we were already doing back then.”

Crawford admitted he’d thought about returning off and on for years. But once his kids began racing in Microds nearly 10 years ago, his focus shifted entirely to helping Tessa and CJ get started.

“When they announced the point series for the GTR deal, I kind of got the itch again,” he said. “It’s always been in the back of my mind, but we’ve typically been so focused on the kids. CJ’s in his rookie season and wants to run for Rookie of the Year, so that’s been our priority.”

CJ has wasted no time turning heads in his first season. During testing this past Friday, he clicked off a lap of 19.6 seconds - fifth fastest in a 13-car session. His sister Tessa, driving the No. 20 SBS, was Rookie of the Year runner-up in 2024 and has several top-10 finishes under her belt. Now, she’ll be joined by her younger brother in the No. 3J Small Block Super.

Crawford said the limited 4-race points format of the GTR Super Stock Series certainly helped him pull the trigger.

“It’s only four races over three nights, and we only have to have all three cars at the track once,” he said. “So I thought about it a little, toyed back and forth, then Bob Clark posted an old photo album of my car from 2005 and that really got me thinking again. Griffin Miller talked to me on Facebook and kind of put the bug in my ear too.”

Soon after, the Crawfords found a car - tracking down the former Jake Christman No. 48, a proven RoC Tour winner that captured four feature wins last year.

“Memorial Day morning, I asked the kids if they wanted to take a drive,” Carl said. “We jumped in the truck with Grandpa, one of my crew guys, and drove down to Pennsylvania. Came back with a race car.”

The car, now to be numbered 20J, is in the shop and close to race ready. Carl plans to shake it down for the first time during Oswego’s Fast Friday testing session from 4:30 to 8:30 PM on June 6.

Among the drivers joining him in the returning Super Stock ranks will be Dave Bock, Jason Dinzler, and possibly Joe Miller - bringing back some of the original cast of characters from the class’s heyday.

As for balancing the role of driver and father/crew chief times two?

“We’ll see how it goes,” Carl smiled. “The kids come first. We’ll make sure Tessa and CJ are taken care of. But I’ve got a lot of help between my brother, Mark Cooper, and my neighbor Paul. There’s a great support system behind us, and we’ll make it work.”

Race fans will have the chance to witness history on June 14 as the Crawfords become the first father-son-daughter trio ever to race at Oswego Speedway. The night marks Round 1 of the GTR Super Stock Series, which includes four total events in 2025. Other races include the Twin 20’s on Saturday, August 2 and of course the 50-lap Dave London Memorial XVII on Classic Weekend, Friday, August 29.
