NASCAR #31 on hand for Cingular Wireless and Oswego Bagelry and Sandwich Shop night.

cingular_120x60.jpgPlenty of activities are on tap for the Saturday July 15th racing day at the Oswego Speedway. The race day sponsors are Cingular Wireless and Oswego Bagelry and Sandwich Shop. The day starts off with the first annual Oswego Speedway "Old-Timers" Reunion-Picnic to be held behind the back grandstand from 12:00 to 3:00. Many of the Supermodified drivers and car owners from the past will be on hand as will vintage Supermodifieds and Modified race cars.

 

Cingular Wireless will have their NASCAR #31 on display from 12:00 until 3:00 at the Oswego store located on Route 104 East across from Burritt Motors. Fans who stop into the Oswego location before Sunday will have a chance to win free tickets to see the real #31 in action at the upcoming race at Watkins Glen. Cingular Wirless is celebrating the first anniversary of their new Oswego location with great deals. They invite you in to join the 56 million people who already get the "Cingular Advantage" with the "All Over Network" and "Rollover Minutes".

 

Oswego Bagelry and Sandwich Shop is a first time race sponsor at Oswego this weekend. They have been in business since 1988. In addition to having the freshest bagels in Oswego they offer several home-made varieties of flavored cream cheeses and some of the largest hot or cold sandwiches you've ever seen. Theyserve breakfast and lunch starting at 5:00 AM on weekdays and at 6:30 on weekends.

 

The "Old Timers" reunion is expecting the following drivers: Bentley Warren, Todd Gibson, Norm Mackereth and his three sons Brian, Craig and Andy; Warren Coniam, Jim Gray, Johnny Spencer, Mark Letcher, Johnny Casey, Irish Jack Murphy, Doug Syer, Tiger Tommy Leeson, Gary Reichert, Chuck Ciprich, Wayne Landon, Kempton Dates, Steve Gioia Bill Sharkey and confirmation from another dozen or so competitors is expected before the event.

 

From the car-owner ranks confirmation has been received from Eleanor (Rutledge) Frye and family (Rutledge Rockets 45 & 46), Roy Murphy (Shamrock 13), Jim DeLucia (Solvay Automotive 04), Jerry and Bill Knoof (White Super 21), Andy Susco (Joe Orso’s 96 super), Sean Magari (10), Billy Wright (10pins) Kenny Reece (00), Bobby June (59), Ron Buckner (36) and several others expected to be added to the list soon.

 

The reunion-picnic will be held behind the back grandstands where a tent, tables and chairs will serve as the meeting point.  A picnic style buffet will be served by Garafolo’s and non-alcoholic beverages will be included. Overnight camping will be allowed.

 

Everyone is welcome to attend. This gives all the fans a chance to meet their former racing heroes in a casual atmosphere where they can take pictures, get autographs and just enjoy recalling the glory days of the past.

Tickets are available for $20 per person, which includes admission to that evening’s racing program.  Those who just want to attend the reunion only will have a $15 charge.  Ticket requests may obtained by sending a check in U.S. funds to Old Timers Reunion, c/o Jim Liccardi 213 Duer St., Oswego, NY.  13126.

 

After the “Old Timers” reunion ends, race night co-sponsor Cingular Wireless will have the Jeff Burton driven NASCAR #31 on hand in front of the Speedway from 4:00 until 6:00. This will give fans a chance to have a close up look at one of Richard Childress’ team cars. Later in the evening Coca Cola will be on hand with the “Vault Hummer” and they will be distributing free “Vault” product to fans exiting the races on Saturday night.

 

In between all of this activity will be a full night of racing featuring the Novelis Supermodifieds, the PathFinder Bank Limited Supers and the Antique Stock Car Club.
