The first of three scheduled Novelis and Habitat for Humanity can collections was a huge success on Saturday June 24th at the Oswego Speedway. Novelis representatives set up a can collection station outside of the Oswego Speedway from 4:00 until 6:30. The “Can Guy” mascot was on hand to meet kids and mingle with fans during the Constellation and Entergy autograph session on the track at 6:15. During the two and one half hours that Novelis representatives were collecting cans they received cans from nearly 125 different race fans attending the nights racing action. Early reports had the one hundred twenty plus fans depositing approximately 14,000 cans at the Oswego Speedway. Each fan that dropped off at least one hundred cans will receive two Classic week tickets and each additional 100 cans erned fans an additional ticket. The can collections will resume on July 22nd and finally on “Family Night” again on August 12th. The Oswego Speedway is proud of the fans that showed up in such strong numbers and donated 14,000 cans in just over two hours. Hopefully the following two collections will be even larger. These local donations go directly to the Oswego County Chapter of Habitat for Humanity which in turn builds homes right in our local communities. |
