Greg Furlong announced on Thursday May 25th that he was leaving the Jim Patternoster owned USAC Silver Crown ride. Greg stated that "I race to win and win only and after two races it became evident that would not happen any time soon". After the expected new car bugs were dealt with in the season opening race at Phoenix, Arizona, the problems got worse instead of better at the second race at Homestead, Florida.

Problems from car set-up to the lack of adequate horsepower became too much for the new #41 to remotely be competitive. Greg stated that he was told a new engine was on the way but that turned out to be false. The current engine recently came back from a dyno session and proved to be down 130 horsepower from what is necessary to run on the larger tracks which the new Silver Crown car was designed to run on.

Greg thanked Bill Shea from Ferris Industries for making a commitment to support the USAC effort. Greg will be racing at Oswego for sure on the August 19th Ferris Industries Twin 30’s event and he will make an appearance at the Ferris pre-race hospitality tent across from the Speedway that afternoon.

Greg stated that he was not going to be in the USAC Sliver Crown Series running around in 9th place just to say he was there. He would rather part ways than continue down that path.

Greg’s immediate plans call for him to defend his Jim Shampine Memorial title on Memorial Day Weekend, which is sponsored by another one of his sponsors, Community Bank, NA. Greg plans on being back behind the wheel of the #72 for the Ferris Industries night on August 19th and he says that you will still see Chris Perley in the car for the "$10,000 to Win" event on July 22nd and Limited Super driver Michael Barnes will be in the car on some other nights in 2006.
