The Oswego Speedway and Novelis can recycling program is closing in on the half million mark in recyclable cans turned in over the past four racing seasons with the 2010 version of the “Fan Can Chase”. Three dates will dot the 2010 racing schedule for fans to bring in their recyclable aluminum cans in exchange for race tickets and other Oswego Speedway prizes.

The race fan collection program began between the Oswego Speedway and Novelis in the 2006 racing season with two collection dates being held and the Oswego Speedway donating all of the cans from the trash chutes towards the season long goal as well. Scriba Lane Redemption Center has been in charge of the can collections and the money for all cans collected has gone to benefit Oswego Schools through the Cans for the Community program.

The collection expanded to three dates for each of the following three seasons and the collection total averaged over 106,000 cans for each of the first four years of this program for a staggering total of 425,320 by the conclusion of the 2009 racing season. The generous race fans at the Oswego Speedway will easily surpass the half million mark in total cans donated by the time the final checkered flag waves in the 2010 racing season.

The recycling can program prizes offered for 2010 will again focus on reducing the overall cost of a night out at the Oswego Speedway on the three can collection nights. Classic Weekend tickets and Season Passes will still be the primary prizes that are awarded. Again in 2010 there will be a random drawing at each collection date for a night for two in the VIP Tower.

A new twist to the program for 2010 will allow fans to try and win additional Internaltional Classic tickets if they separate their pull tabs from the cans being donated and turn them in at a separate table inside the track. The pull tab collection will go directly to "Camp Good Days and Special Times, Inc." which is a 501(c)3 not for profit organization dedicated to imroving the quality of life for children, adults and families whose lives have been touched by cancer and other life challenges. Camp Good Days has a recreational facility at Keuka Lake and year-round support activities in the Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse areas. Fans can turn in their pull tabs to Don Wilcox or Jim Liccardi at the "Cleaning for a Reason / Classic Lap Sponsor" table in the concession area. The fan that turns in the most pull tabs on each of the collection dates in 2010 will receive two Classic Weekend reserved seat tickets. The fan that turns in the most pull tabs for the season through August 21st will recive four Classic Weekend reserved seat tickets.

The final 2010 “Get your can to the Speedway” Novelis recycling collection date is on July 31st from 3:00 to 6:00. Since all fans must purchase a race ticket on the dates of the collections to earn any prizes that are offered fans will instantly get a break on their night once inside the speedway. The donation of 200 or more New York State 5 cent recyclable cans from the same household will earn one family member a $10 Food Voucher for the concession stands on that night. All households with donations of 1,000 or more will win grandstand general admission for two on Saturday and Sunday of Classic Weekend. One fan at random will win (2) VIP Tower Passes and be guests of the Oswego Speedway on Bud Light and Davis Bros. Saturday for the Bud Light Super National and SBS Bud Light Classic races. Finally the top donator on July 31 st will win a five lap ride in the 2-Seater Supermodified courtesy of Chris Nelson Insurance.

The collection totals for fans will be kept for all three events. After the July 31st collection date the top twelve fans in season long donation totals will qualify as prize winners in the 2010 Novelis “Fan Can Chase”. The top donating household for the season will receive (2) 2011 Regular Season Pit Passes. The second place household will receive (2) 2011 Regular season Reserved Seat Tickets. The third place household will receive (2) 2011 Regular Season Sky Deck Passes. Fans representing households from 4th through 12th positions in the “Fan Can Chase” will all receive 2010 grandstand general admission for two on Saturday and Sunday of Budweiser Classic Weekend.

All fans are reminded not to split up their donations on the three race dates. Several fans in the past have separated race date donations into different names and have missed out on season long prizes even though those multiple donations were, in fact, from the same household. Splitting up race date donations, in excess of 200 cans, will not result in additional $10 Food Vouchers being issued. As in the past, names and phone numbers will need to be on all bags turned in and a photo I.D. will be required as only one Food Voucher will be issued per residence. Food Vouchers will be dated for use on the date they are issued and must be used in one concession transaction. Food Vouchers are good for all menu items except beer and wine.

July 31st is the last chance to be part of the weekly top three or shoot for the season long top twelve in the Novelis “Fan Can Chase” at the Oswego Speedway.
