The fourth annual recyclable can collection for Novelis and Oswego County Habitat for Humanity kicked off at the Oswego Speedway on Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend. The Oswego Speedway and their generous fans continue to be the leader in recyclable can donations for Novelis fans continued to show their support for this recycling initiative by beating last years opening round of the can collection.

The 2009 Novelis “Fan Can Chase” has restructured the prizes for those fans that bring in recyclable cans to the Oswego Speedway on three selected can collection dates. As in the past, fans will have a chance to bring cans in during a three hour window on three big race dates during the season in exchange for race ticket packages based on the level of cans that are donated.

For 2009 a new feature of the can collection event is the issuing of instant food vouchers to go along with Classic Weekend grandstand and VIP Tower passes and 2010 season passes. Complete details can be viewed by clicking on the Novelis “Fan Can Chase” logo on the left of the homepage at www.oswegospeedway.com.

The can collection total from May 23rd was 13,390 which combined with the Oswego Speedway donation of cans from the trash chutes weekly, places the 2009 total to date at 25,000 cans. With previous annual totals of 52,000 in 2006, 116,000 in 2007 and 148,000 in 2008, the Oswego Speedway and its fans have donated over 340,000 cans since the start of the program.

With the final two collection dates for 2009 set for the July 4th and August 1st “Kids Autograph Nights”, the grand total of donated recyclable cans from fans and the Oswego Speedway will close in on half a million cans at the conclusion of the season.

The Oswego Speedway, Novelis and Habitat for Humanity would like to thank the generous Oswego race fans for taking the lead in the local effort of donating recyclable aluminum cans.
