There will be a new name to some familiar awards in 2008 at the Oswego Speedway but the man behind the sponsorship is still the same. The Novelis Supermodified top performing rookies will receive the “Cleaning for a Reason” Rookie of the Year and “Cleaning for a Reason” Rookie of the Classic awards.
Tom Heveron, President of Beachland Cleaning Services in Vero Beach, Florida, is a charter member of “Cleaning for a Reason”. This is a national foundation that tries to link up with local cleaning services to help out cancer patients. For cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, doing some things can be difficult even if they seem simple to others. Under the program with Cleaning for a Reason, cancer patients can have a cleaning service come in and clean their house once a month, up to four times. In the Vero Beach area, Beachland Cleaning Services is a partner with Cleaning for a Reason. Cancer patient Darby Dickerson is a beneficiary of Beachland’s support of this program. Darby knows that one day soon she will regain control of running her own house, but for now she is thankful for Beachland and the Cleaning for a Reason program. She stated that the program “was the best thing to ever happen to me right in the middle of the worst thing to ever happen to me.” Tom Heveron holds a special place in his heart for cancer patients. His mother died of cancer seven years ago and his wife is currently a four year survivor of breast cancer. Tom summed his feelings about his participation by saying “to be able to help people out who are going through this is the most gratifying thing that I have ever done.” Tom hopes that as many cleaning agencies nationwide that want to participate in their local communities will do so by calling 1-800-I’M-AWARE. As Tom’s brother Doug prepares to end his racing career in 2008, Tom will keep the legacy of their mother alive with the re-naming his awards at the Oswego Speedway in recognition of the Cleaning for a Reason program. Jason Spaulding and Jeffrey Abold picked up the Beachland Cleaning Services Rookie of the Year and Rookie of the Classic awards in 2007. In 2008 the award winners will walk off with new trophies for the “Cleaning for a Reason” Rookie of the Year and “Cleaning for a Reason” Rookie of the Classic. |
