Long time Oswego Speedway announcer Roy Sova has been named Racer Relations Manager at the Oswego Speedway effective immediately. Sova, who recently moved back to the Central New York area from Massachusetts, said he is excited about the job and looking forward to a great 2008 season and beyond.
In his new job Sova will be involved with the supermodified and SBS drivers, owners, and teams to help create a better working relationship between them and the speedway.
Steve Gioia, Oswego Speedway co-owner, said, “Pat and I have considered this move for a long time. Roy has been here forever, knows the drivers and owners, and certainly has shown the ability to communicate with them, and that’s just what we need. Roy will be an unbiased person who can listen to the teams and bring their concerns to us.
Oswego Speedway co-owner, Pat Furlong, added, “Roy will not be replacing anybody or assuming any jobs already being done by somebody else. He is an addition to our staff and will fill a hole in our organization that, hopefully, will bring the race teams and speedway management closer together.
“Pat, Steve and I have had several conversations about the position,” Sova said, “and think there is a definite need for a person to assume this position. They are busy with the day to day operation of the speedway, plus running their other business ventures, they have sometimes not been able to be as hands-on with the drivers, owners and teams as they would like.”
Within the next couple of weeks Sova said he will be contacting as many supermodified and SBS owners and drivers as he can by phone, and getting out to visit as many teams in their garages as possible.
Roy and Joe Marotta will continue to work together in the Oswego Speedway announcer’s booth.
Sova recently sold his own business which was located in Massachusetts and moved to Granby. He is originally from Oswego and said he is glad to finally be back home.
Sova, who won the first ever "Firecracker 4" Announcers Match Race in 2007, was inducted into the Oswego Speedway Hall of Fame last October 27th after being the “Voice of Oswego Speedway” for over four decades.
