The blending together of the Midwestern Supermodified Association (MSA) with the Oswego Speedway in 2007 proved to be more of a success than originally planned. The three race schedule from 2007, which included the Oswego and Sandusky Speedways, has been doubled to six scheduled races for 2008. Spencer Speedway in Williamson, New York joins Sandusky and Oswego for the second year of the series. The highlight of the six race series is race number five which will be the 15th Annual Winged Super National 50 on Friday August 29th during Oswego’s 52nd International Classic Weekend.

The idea of merging the MSA and the Oswego Speedway supermodified drivers was created in January of 2007 at a meeting which included Steve Gioia, Jr. from the Oswego Speedway and Kevin Jaycox from the Sandusky Speedway. The idea was seen as a way to strengthen the future of supermodified racing. With four distinct supermodified groups of drivers from coast to coast and approximately twenty cars in regular competition at any one time from those groups, Gioia and Jaycox felt car counts and fan interest would increase with any of the groups working together. The MSA-Oswego Wings Series was born at that meeting and the results were nothing short of a success.

The first race in 2007 was at the Oswego Speedway on June 9th and nearly three dozen cars were in the pits producing the largest field of supermodifieds to compete in one event at any track in 2007 excluding the Oswego Speedway International Classic event. The second of the three MSA-Oswego Wing events was scheduled on July 14th at Oswego and again the car count was over thirty. Unfortunately a steady slow drizzle made for the event to be finally cancelled shortly after nine o’clock but fans continued to purchase tickets and fill the grandstand in hopes that the race would get in. The excitement of a full field of supermodifieds had peaked fans’ interest even with the poor weather on hand. Oswego regulars headed west for the third and final scheduled race at Sandusky Speedway on September 15th on Track Championship night. Another good car count was on hand which left many with bright hope for a continued relationship for the series into 2008.

As the 2008 season starts to unfold, MSA, the Oswego Speedway and Spencer Speedway have doubled the series to six races. The Burkes Do-It Best 2008 MSA-Oswego Wing Series will be highlighted by the Burkes Do-It Best Winged Super National 50 during the 52nd Annual Oswego Speedway Budweiser International Classic Week.

The Burkes Do-It Best 2008 MSA-Oswego Wing Series kicks off on Opening Day, May 4th, at Oswego Speedway with a Sunday afternoon race. Next up on the schedule is a double-header weekend with a Friday June 6th date at Spencer Speedway and a Saturday June 7th race at Oswego. The fourth race in the series is the following Saturday, June 14th at Sandusky Speedway. Next on the schedule will be the Burkes Do-It Best Winged Super National 50 on Friday night August 29th during the Budweiser International Classic Week at Oswego Speedway. The sixth and final scheduled race of the series will be back to Sandusky Speedway for Track Championship night on September 13th.

Merging the two groups of supermodified drivers together was a positive step in 2007 to strengthen the supermodified class and it was met with strong support from fans in the Midwest and northeast. This strong support led to doubling the number of race dates to six for the Burkes Do-It Best 2008 MSA-Oswego Wing Series. Fans and race teams from the Midwest that travel to the Oswego Speedway will not have to worry about Mother Nature spoiling their trips in 2008 as the June 7th date carries a rain date of Sunday June 8th and the Friday August 29th date will be run off during International Classic Weekend if weather is an issue on Friday night.

The Oswego Speedway has also set aside an non-winged Open Practice session on Friday August 15th for MSA teams to be part of Track Championship Twin 30’s night on August 16th and to test their set-ups for the Budweiser International Classic 200 on August 31st.

Three tracks, two groups of drivers and one common cause…to make supermodified racing stronger into the future through the six race Burkes Do-It Best 2008 MSA-Oswego Wing Series.
