By Oswego Speedway :: 1411 Views :: Race Recap

Two champions made it to Victory Lane for the first time in the 2007 at Oswego Speedway on July 7th.  Defending International Classic Champion Greg Furlong got his first regular season win since the 2005 season at Oswego with an impressive win on a race night that was co-sponsored by one of his sponsors, Ferris Industries. Defending SBS Classic and Track Champion Russ Brown, tasted victory for the first time in 2007 as well. Jeffrey Abold, the son of a former Champion picked up career win number two at Oswego. In the USAC Ford Focus Midget Series 35 lap feature, Jeffrey Abold picked up the victory. For Abold, the series point leader, it was his fourth win in six races in 2007. He doubled up on wins for the weekend as he won at Spencer Speedway on Friday night. Jeffrey's grandfather Bill was a car owner at Oswego in the 1950's and his father, Pat, was a Track Champion at Oswego in 1992.

Russ Brown has been knocking on the door for a podium finish all season. Consistent runs have put him into the points lead but victory has been elusive for the Hedger Team “House Car” in 2007. Brown put on a great charge to the front and he and Kevin Knopp were both clocked in the 19.2 second bracket during the feature. Brown picked up the win with Knopp close behind after thirty laps of feature competition. Brain Sobus ran a strong race and finished in third place. Josh LaRochelle and Lou LeVea rounded out the top five. The Cooks Jewelers Heat Race wins went to Brian Sobus, Mike Bond and Lou LeVea. The Cutro Professional Inspections feature “Up ‘n Comer” was Jason Simmons. The Localtrax.com “Hard Charger” was Russ Brown. The Butler Disposal “Hard Luck” driver was Shawn Walker. The SBS Racing News “Pass of the Race” was made by Russ Brown. The Whites Car Care “4th Place Bonus” went to Josh LaRochelle.

Greg Furlong showed early in the night that his run of bad luck was coming to an end. The feature ran caution free and Furlong lapped all but three cars en route to his victory. Tim Snyder ran his best race of the season coming home in second place behind Furlong. Michael Barnes continued his strong runs in the Double Deuce with a third place finish. Shawn Muldoon brought his new #1 home in fourth place for the second week in a row in just the third week of competition for the car. Keith Shampine finally avoided the bad luck that has plagued the team this year and finished in fifth place. IRL driver Davey Hamilton brought the Nicotra #7 home in eighth place. The Burkes Home Center Heat Race wins went to Greg Furlong, and Michael Barnes. The J&K Plumbing, Heating – A/C “Up ‘n Comer” was Shawn Muldoon for the second week in a row. The Jakes Automotive “Hard Charger” was Keith Gilliam. The Colosse Cheese “Hard Luck” award went to Craig Rayvals. The 2 Xtreme Auto Transport “Pass of the Race” was turned in by Tim Snyder. The Maid Pro “Clean Sweep” award was picked up by Greg Furlong.
