The 2007 Oswego Speedway Schedule Shirt says it all, “Rising Stars of New School”. Both Josh LaRochelle and Michael Barnes are featured across the bottom of the shirts with “Legends of Old School” Jimmy Shampine and Maynard Troyer across the top. LaRochelle had already visited Victory Lane in 2007 in the PathFinder Bank SBS Series and Barnes, the other rising star, picked up his first win in the Novelis Supermodified Division on Dunkin Donuts and RJ Caruso Tax & Accounting Night. Larry Muroski picked up his second SBS win of the year as well.
Larry Muroski has come a long way in his brief SBS racing career. He was Rookie of the Year in 2006 and he has picked up two wins in the first part of the 2007 season. Muroski ran strong all night long with Jack Patrick settled into second. At the midway point Russ Brown, Brian Sobus and Tim Barbeau ran third fourth and fifth. Sobus got by Brown on lap 18 and Lou LaVea got by Barbeau on lap 28. At the finish it was Muroski, Patrick, Sobus, Brown and LaVea. The Cooks Jewelers Heat Race wins went to Larry Muroski, Jack Patrick and Lou LaVea. The Cutro Professional Inspections feature “Up ‘n Comer” was Rick Zeigler. The Localtrax.com “Hard Charger” was Josh LaRochelle. The Butler Disposal “Hard Luck” driver was Dave Cliff. The SBS Racing News “Pass of the Race” was made by Lou LaVea. The Whites Car Care “4th Place Bonus” went to Russ Brown. The Maid Pro “Clean Sweep” bonus was collected by Larry Muroski.
Michael Barnes put on a clinic in the Novelis Supermodified feature. After a yellow flag on lap 1 for Keith Shampine, the race went green for the next forty laps. At the half way point of the race, Barnes was leading Randy Ritskes, Greg Furlong, Otto Sitterly and Pat Lavery. With less than five laps to go, Barnes had a lap on the entire field up to fourth place, which may have been a record for fewest cars on the lead lap with just one yellow flag and a low rate of attrition. Unfortunately the complexion of the race and the top five changed on lap 41. While racing through lapped traffic, Ritskes and Furlong came together entering turn three and both cars were done for the night. Barnes cruised under the checkered flag for his first win in his Hawk Chassis #22 which was the former Otto Sitterly #79. Sitterly came home in second in his new Hawk Chassis #6. Tim Snyder brought his Hawk Chassis #0 home for third. Pat Lavery and Stephen Gioia III rounded out the top five. The Burkes Home Center Heat Race wins went to Randy Ritskes and Michael Barnes. The J&K Plumbing, Heating – A/C “Up ‘n Comer” was Pat Lavery. The Jakes Automotive “Hard Charger” was Travis Bartlett. The Colosse Cheese “Hard Luck” award went to Craig Rayvals. The 2 Xtreme Auto Transport “Pass of the Race” was turned in by Michael Barnes. The Maid Pro “Clean Sweep” award, which had gone unclaimed in two weeks, was picked up by Michael Barnes giving the #22 just over $2,200 for his night of work at the Oswego Speedway.
The only visit of the 2007 season for the Briggs & Stratton Tobias Slingshots saw race winner Steve Hicks get DQ’d and the win went to Kevin Albert Jr. |
