A glimpse into the future of supermodified racing was on display Saturday night June 9th at the Oswego Speedway. Nearly three dozen of the best winged supermodified cars from the East and Midwest got together for the inaugural Days Inn MSA-Oswego Wings Challenge Series. MSA hot shoe DJ Shullick picked up the win to tie Tim Jedrzejek for the all time lead in MSA feature wins. Alan Barker picked up the win in the companion SBS Series Feature race

The first feature on Outdoor Power and Red Carpet Inn night was for the PathFInder Bank SBS Racing Series. Alan Barker proved that his Memorial Day win at Adirondack Speedway was no fluke as he picked up career win number one at the Oswego Speedway on his birthday. A couple of FFB Chassis’ came home in second and third in the persons of Rob Pullen and Tim Barbeau. Russ Brown came home in fourth place as he continues to find it hard to get a podium finish in 2007 after owning the podium over the past two seasons. Dave Gruel continued his string of good runs with a fifth place finish. Josh LaRochelle brought the Outdoor Power #10 home in sixth place on his sponsors’ night. Lou LeVea, Mike Bond Brian Sobus and Larry Muroski rounded out the top ten. The Cooks Jewelers Heat Race wins went to Larry Muroski, Alan Barker and Lou LeVea. The Cutro Professional Inspections feature “Up ‘n Comer” was Alan Barker. The Localtrax.com “Hard Charger” was Mike Bond. The Butler Disposal “Hard Luck” driver was Kevin Knopp.  The SBS Racing News “Pass of the Race” was made by Lou LeVea. The Whites Car Care “4th Place Bonus” went to Russ Brown.  The Maid Pro “Clean Sweep” bonus was won by Alan Barker.

The much anticipated Days Inn MSA-Oswego Wings Challenge Series was all that promoters from both sides could have asked for. Perfect weather, nearly three dozen winged supermodifieds in the pits and the largest croud of the season at the Oswego Speedway in 2007. The 40 lap feature race saw Stephen Gioia III and Keith Shampine bring the field down to the green flag. Shampine looked to have things his way until he spun by himself coming off of turn number two on lap seven. Gioia inherited the lead and was off running a smooth grove out in front with Greg Furlong in second place with the field swapping positions behind them. At the halfway point of the feature it was Gioia, Furlong, Timmy Jedrzejek, Michael Barnes and Moe Lilje. The complexion of the race changed on lap thirty when Gene Lee Gibson spun and hit the outside wall coming out of turn four. A fast moving DJ Shullick, now in third place, had the chance to try and advance his position on the restart. Shullick passed Furlong and Gioia in back to back laps and was the leader of the race with less than ten laps to go. The large crowd gave Shullick a huge ovation as he passed under the checkered flag for his first career win at the Oswego Speedway. Schultz came home in second. Gioia, Furlong and Jedrzejek rounded out the top five. Schullick told Danny Johnson that he had been coming to the Oswego Speedway to watch his father race since about the time he was five years old. He remembers playing in the mud puddles on the Speedway property. He has come a long way since those days as his first win at the Oswego Speedway ties him with Timmy Jedrzejek as the all-time feature win record holder for the MSA Series. The win netted the #49 team a $2,700 payday.

The second race in the MSA-Oswego Wings Challenge Series will be on July 14th at Oswego Speedway. It is expected to bring out over three dozen of the best winged drivers from the Midwest to do battle with the best from the Oswego Speedway. MSA picked up round number one, which group of Supermodifieds will be the best in round number two?
