The Oswego Speedway was proud to play a role in helping out a local charitable association after the completion of the 2006 racing season. When the ASA Late Model Series invaded the Oswego Speedway on Saturday June 10 last year, Trackside Charities made sure that their visit would make a lasting impression on the community with a sizeable donation. When the touring ASA Series makes plans to visit communities they team up with Trackside Charities and the country band Emerson Drive to help out a local charitable cause. The formula for the donation is based on where young hot shoe Chad Wood finishes in that nights' feature race. Trackside Charities, through a matching donation sponsor, can award as much as $6,000 if Chad Wood wins the feature at that particular track. Last June, Wood brought his #2 home in second place triggering a donation of $4,000 in Oswego. When Trackside Charities contacted the Oswego Speedway in the weeks leading up to the race it was an easy choice for the Speedway to make as to what charitable cause that Trackside Charities should be sending their donation to. The Oswego Speedway selected "Integrated Community Planning" here in Oswego to be the beneficiary of any Trackside Charity donation. The Oswego Speedway has built up a good relationship in recent years with various agencies that operate out of the Integrated Community Planning Office. Some of the programs that people are familiar with are the Traffic Safety Council, Reality Check, the Rural Health and the Tobacco Free Networks of Oswego County. There are other programs that “fly under the radar” which most people don’t know exist. One such program is an education program for young single mothers. It is a valuable program that helps out girls who are at a crossroads in their own life. This is an important program that can go a long way to helping these young mothers become good mothers and educate other girls as to what parenting can be like. The Oswego Speedway is proud of their association with the agencies that work out of the Integrated Community Planning Office here in Oswego. The annual Traffic Safety Council Car Seat Checkpoint and Bike Rodeo will be coming up in September at the Speedway and several Tobacco Free Network cross-promotion events occur with the Speedway each year. Attending the recent check presentation of $4,000 was Steve Pryor from the Oswego Speedway along with Integrated Community Planning members Lori Boles, Tammy Hammond, Rosanne Maxon, Denise Opet and Terry Hogan. |
