BINGHAMTON, NY…The Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Tour is set to go green on Sunday, May 7th as part of the “Open Wheel Extravaganza” at Oswego Speedway. Teams competing on the series this year will have an opportunity to earn “participating speedway bonus points”

The “participating speedway point bonus” will award a 50 point bonus toward the overall R.o.C title to teams that compete in a total of three non point races at participating R.o.C facilities. Teams just need to compete in three non R.o.C events prior to September 3rd in order to qualify for the bonus points. Officials at both Mahoning Valley Speedway and Lancaster Raceway Park are hosting several events during the season that are non-handicapped shows so that the top R.o.C stars would not be at a handicap with regards to their starting positions.

“We put this bonus program into effect to help the participating facilities lure in some of our top R.o.C teams on off weekends,” commented Tour Director Andrew Harpell. He added, “Fans can count on seeing more of our teams at their home speedway during the summer which will certainly add to the quality of the event.”

Due to the fact that Mahoning Valley and Lancaster Raceway Park are the only two facilities hosting weekly full blown Modifieds, teams can log all three of their credits at either location. Wyoming County International runs a limited Modified schedule which will provide the R.o.C teams with an opportunity to credit a maximum of two events there. Chemung Speedrome, Thompson International and Wall Township Speedway all host weekly B- Mod or Sportsman racing. Because they also host R.o.C Modified events drivers will be able to earn one credit at each of these facilities. As long as teams total three non R.o.C events among participating speedway’s they will earn the bonus.

“We want to help strengthen the tracks that support our series in any avenue that we can,” said Harpell. “In essence this will make our 2006 tour a seventeen race trail,” he added. Once again this season teams will also be able to earn bonus points for heat victories. In the past this has certainly required teams to race to the finish in qualifying which gives spectators a better show.

The 2006 Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Tour goes green on Sunday, May 7th at the Oswego Speedway as part of the “Open Wheel Extravaganza”. The Modifieds will be joined by the I.S.M.A winged Super Modifieds and Limited Super Modifieds. Race time on May 7th is 1 p.m. An open practice session is slated the day prior at Oswego Speedway.
