The Oswego Lions Club will hold its first Child Safety Day with "Cow Chip Bingo" on Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Oswego Speedway infield. The event is scheduled from 11:00 to 4:00. Admission is free. The Child Safety Day will feature many attractions including a Trafic Safety Council car seat safety checkpoint and bike rodeo, free kids vision screenings, fingerprinting, the Tobacco Free Network booth and much more.

The Oswego Lions Club will be donating 100 new bike helmets for the event. The day will feature music provided by The Swivel Rockers from 1:00 to 4:00, a classic car show and a chicken barbecue by the Oswego Elks Club. The Museum of Science and Technology (MoST) traveling shows will put on two programs which will include Optical Illusion, Science of Sports and Animal demonstrations. The shows will start at 12:00 and 1:30 p.m. The Oswego County Safety Trailer will have demonstrations on the hour starting at 11:00 with each session taking 30 minutes. The Red Planet will be doing skateboard demonstrations. The "Cow Chip Bingo" portion of the event will run from 12:00 to 3:00.

"Deeds" are available for $10 each. The proceeds from the "Cow Chip Bingo" will used to support an annual scholarship in the memory of Harold "H" Dowd who passed away last September. "H" was a member of the Fulton Lions Club who was instrumental in keeping the Oswego Lions Club going when it was on the verge of disbanding in 1996. The "Cow Chip Bingo" will take place on a football field size area that will be sectioned off into 520 square yard plots. "Deeds" are being sold for $10 for each square yard plot. Once "Poopsie" the cow is released onto the field, whoever owns the plot that "Poopsie" the cow fertilizes, walks away with $1,000. "Deeds" are available for purchase at Cakes Galore and More, Maida's Floral Shop, Hometown Embroidery and Dowd's House of Flowers.

"We are proud to have Oswego Daily News, as well as WSEN 92.1 FM as our media sponsors. The response we have had to this event has been overwhelming, and we hope it will be something that the entire Oswego community looks forward to every September," said Karen Hammond, chairperson of the event. Lions International, established in 1917, consists of 40,000 local Lions Clubs worldwide, with membership of 1.4 million volunteers.
