Davis Brothers Time Trials for the Budweiser International Classic produced what many didn’t expect, a new track record. In the accompanying Parts Plus Modified 125, Oswego Speedway history was made as something happened that had never before been accomplished. In the Supermodified time-trials, both Greg Furlong and Otto Sitterly broke Furlong’s existing track record. Sitterly qualified outside of the front row with a time of 16.535 seconds. Furlong shattered his own record with a time of 16.377 seconds. Most fans and drivers expected times to be near but not below the record Furlong had previously set. Nobody expected to see a 16.3 second lap on the night, when Otto Sitterly had posted just a couple of 16.4 second laps during the entire season. Even more amazing is the fact that Furlong sat out most of the season and when he did compete he was towed off on the hook most of the time, including demolishing his car back on August 12th. Sitterly got what he wanted as he was quoted before the time trials as just wanting to qualify in the front row. He is very happy with that and hopes a good race strategy translates into a Classic win for the 2006 Track Champion and Mr. Supermodified winner. In the Parts Plus 125 for the Race of Champion Modifieds, Jan Leaty pitted for fresh rubber and was the fastest car on the track after he came back out. He slowly picked off Lee Sherwood then Bill Hebing as the race wound down and picked up the extra distance feature win. His son Mike won a 100 lap feature at Oswego Speedway earlier this season and the combination of father and son winning in the same season is something that has never been done at the Oswego Speedway in its fifty six year history. Now the racing action moves ahead to Saturday and Sunday when no fewer than six divisions of cars take to the famed Oswego Speedway to participate in season-ending races. For the Novelis Supermodifieds it will be the 50th annual Budweiser International Classic 200 on Sunday. |
