OSWEGO, NY (August 7) – Budweiser International Classic Weekend is now set at Oswego Speedway.  The 602 Crate Dirt Sportsman division will fill the recently vacant slot on the Friday, August 31st rundown for International Classic Weekend with the $1,500 to win Sportsman “Sizzler” 30.

The Sportsman division, which competes weekly at several area dirt facilities, will hit the pavement along with Top 14 Novelis Supermodified International Classic time trials and the Bud Light Classic 60 qualifying heats for the Pathfinder Bank SBS Series.

“We greatly appreciate the cooperation and eagerness of the dirt Sportsman teams in this matter, seeing that we have had to put this together on such short notice,” said Oswego Speedway co-owner, Eric Torrese.  “Budweiser Classic Weekend is one of the biggest short track racing weekends anywhere in the country, and with that said we are here to put on races at the ‘Steel Palace.’  We believe firmly in the quality of drivers, equipment, and racing that the Sportsman series will bring to the Friday night card of Classic Weekend, and we hope everyone enjoys it.”

Several top Sportsman competitors have displayed interest in the high paying event including Fulton Speedway track champion Jeremy Pitcher, and former Canandaigua Motorsports Park track champion Kevin Ridley.  Ridley recently won the SUNY Canton Sportsman event at Brewerton Speedway which was held alongside the All-Star Circuit of Champions 410 Sprint Car event featuring NASCAR champion Tony Stewart.

Former Novelis Supermodified pilot, and Fulton Speedway Sportsman winner, Bob Reis has filed an entry for the event which will pay $100 to start, with $75 tow money to non-qualifiers.  Jason Occhino, another Fulton competitor, and Vermont native James Introne have also filed entries.

The event, which boasts a $7,300 total purse, is a first in Oswego Speedway Classic Weekend history.

Dirt 602/Crate Sportsman rules will be strictly enforced for this event, with no asphalt or slick tires allowed.

Competitors with detailed questions regarding rules or race format can call the Oswego Speedway office at (315) 342-0646 or e-mail Dan Kapuscinski at dkapuscinski@oswegospeedway.com.
