MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- TJ Toyota of Potsdam, N.Y., and the Osetek Racing Technologies supermodified team have partnered for the 2017 Novelis Supermodified racing season at Oswego Speedway.
With the partnership TJ Toyota becomes the primary sponsor of the Chris Osetek-owned #55 super and driver Keith Shampine. The team plans to compete in all 2017 Oswego Novelis Supermodified events with tentative plans to enter a handful of ISMA-sanctioned events with the same racecar.
“We couldn’t be happier to announce TJ Toyota as our first primary sponsor,” Chris Osetek stated. “We feel like this is going to be a great partnership that benefits both our team and TJ’s. We want to thank (TJ Toyota President) Ed Cloce and his group for their faith in and commitment to our team. This has us even more excited to start the season this May.”
Located at 6706 State Hwy 56 in Potsdam, TJ Toyota is a family-owned auto dealership that opened in 1980 with the primary goal of providing customers the best product at the best price available and superior customer service.
Osetek and Shampine, both Central New York natives who now reside in the Mooresville, N.C., area, teamed for the 2013 Oswego season with a home-built #55 supermodified. Osetek fielded the car for three years until the 2016 season, when the team debuted a second-generation #55 that showed great speed out of the box. A pair of top-three finishes last summer and an impressive showing International Classic weekend in September have the team eager to embark on what they hope will be their most successful season to date.
“The addition of TJ Toyota to our team adds to what is already a very exciting time for us,” Keith Shampine said. “Chris built an awesome racecar that we feel has not yet reached its full potential. We’re very eager to bring a family-owned, highly regarded upstate New York company on board with the family-owned Osetek Racing team. Thanks to the Cloce family and the entire TJ Toyota dealership for their support.”
Osetek and Shampine have been busy preparing the TJ Toyota #55 in the team’s North Carolina shop before returning the car to Oswego to rejoin the rest of the Osetek Racing team in time for the May 13 season opener at The Steel Palace.

In a historical twist, TJ Toyota President Ed Cloce was a longtime racecar owner best known for his #69 “Hemi-Cuda” asphalt modified. One of his key drivers in the 1970s was Keith Shampine’s uncle and Oswego Speedway legend, Jim Shampine.
