Classic Champion, Track Record Holder Bob Bond Expected to Contend in Oswego's Grand Prix 75

OSWEGO, NY (July 4, 2014) – Two-time and defending Budweiser International Classic champion Bob Bond has registered for Fast Friday testing at Oswego Speedway and is expected to contend in the Speedway’s Novelis Supermodified Grand Prix 75 main event on Saturday presented by Seminis, Fleet Pride, and Canale Insurance.

Bond, who shattered the Speedway’s Novelis Supermodified track record on May 10 with a lap of 16.098 seconds in his Four Sevens Motorsports Hawk Supermodified, has not competed at Oswego since the May 24 Jim Shampine Memorial 75 which Otto Sitterly won for the sixth time.

In only two starts this season, Bond took third in the Novelis Supermodified Kickoff on May 10 and was battling Dave Gruel and Sitterly in the Shampine Memorial before fueling gremlins sidelined the No. 47 some 15-laps from the finish.

In the time since Bond has been away from the Speedway, Randy Ritskes and Michael Barnes have emerged as threats for victory, with two wins a piece.

Ritskes claimed the Speedway’s Spring Championship on May 31 as well as the first Twin 35 main event on June 21 in the Locke Racing No. 37.

Barnes charged onto the scene with a full head of steam on May 31 and has been truly captivating in the Syrell Racing No. 68 ever since.  After issues on May 24, Barnes has been in contention to win every main event following, driving to dominating victories on June 14 and June 21.

Joining Ritskes, Barnes, and Sitterly as main event winners so far in 2014 is David Danzer, who has plans to debut his brand new Hawk Supermodified during Fast Friday testing on July 4.  If all goes well on Friday look for Danzer to join Barnes, Bond, and Gruel as up front contenders in the latest generation Hawk Supermodified on Saturday.

While the chatter of the Novelis Supermodified and Oswego Speedway community as of late has been Michael Barnes, Otto Sitterly continues to lead the series standings and is an odds on favorite in any 75-lap event at the Speedway.

Since 2012 there have been ten 75-lap Novelis Supermodified mains, with Sitterly taking an impressive six victories.

Ritskes, Kody Graham, Davey Hamilton, and Gruel are the only other drivers to win 75-lap events in the last two years, with Gruel taking the victory in last year’s Grand Prix 75.

Throw in other top flight contenders such as Pat Lavery, Michael Muldoon, Joe Gosek, Tim Snyder, and Joey Payne and Saturday night’s Fourth of July celebration is sure to be a can’t miss event with fireworks on and off the race track.

Ending the evening of racing and fun will again be a gigantic fireworks display to cap the night and put a patriotic finishing touch on the Speedway’s Fourth of July celebration.

Fans are also reminded that Saturday will be the second Novelis Fan Can Chase Night of the year.  Bring your aluminum cans for recycling for a chance to win Speedway race tickets.  Redemptions will take place in front of the Speedway from 3-6pm.

Grand Prix Night and Christmas in July will also be a Price Chopper Tickets to Go event with tickets available at any Price Chopper Supermarkets location for only $14.  As always kids 16 and under are FREE with a paid adult.

Grandstand gates will open on Saturday with the beginning of hot laps at 4pm.  Santa Claus will be available for the kids at 6pm, with the night’s first heat race taking the green at 6:30pm.
