OSWEGO, NY (September 10, 2013) – For the second consecutive year the Fall Championship returns to Oswego Speedway on Saturday, but with an extra added bonus in 2013.
With the help of presenting sponsor Davis Bros. Inc. of Oswego, the ‘Steel Palace’ will see the inaugural running of the ‘Open-Wheel Fall Finals’ featuring track championship events for the Novelis Supermodifieds and Pathfinder Bank SBS divisions along with bonus open-wheel racing from the NEMA Midgets, NEMA Lites, and the ATQMRA TQ Midgets.
The five division racing program will begin with qualifying heats at 3pm on Saturday and general admission seating will cost only $20. Kids 16 and under will once again be free of charge for the jam packed night of racing as long as they attend with a paid adult.
An open practice for all divisions will be held on Friday, September 13 from 5-9pm. Admission into the grandstands will be free for spectators and both the infield concessions and Tiki Bar will be open for the test session.
For the first time since 2005, Oswego Speedway point championships will be settled after Budweiser International Classic Weekend.
Once again the Novelis Supermodified championship will come right down to the wire on Saturday featuring high point pilots Otto Sitterly, Joe Gosek, Shaun Gosselin, Dave Gruel, Dave Danzer, and Pat Lavery.
All six drivers are separated by a mere 56-points with the top three of Sitterly, Gosek, and Gosselin just 22-markers apart. Saturday night’s 75-lap main will be a can’t miss event as the track title could come down to the very last lap around the fast 5/8 of a mile.
The Pathfinder Bank SBS series will see battles throughout the field in its 35-lap main especially in positions two through four in the championship race. Mike Bond, JJ Andrews, and Jason Simmons are just 17-points apart as they try to give chase to series point leader Russ Brown.
Brown holds a 58-point edge on Bond for the track title.
The NEMA Midgets and NEMA Lites will make their first appearance at the Speedway since August of 2012.
Always fast and exciting, the NEMA Midgets will return with a fleet of top competitors including Joey Payne, John Zych Jr., Todd Bertrand, Randy Cabral, Ian Cumens, Russ Stoehr, and Jeff Abold.
Payne, Cumens, and Abold are among drivers that will compete in more than one division.
Payne will not only drive the No. 44 NEMA Midget, but he will also return to the seat of the Muldoon Racing No. 20 Supermodified as well as the No. 51 TQ Midget.
Cumens will compete in both NEMA divisions, Midget & Lites, and will also look to compete in the TQ Midget main as well.
Abold, the regular driver of the Abold Racing No. 05 Supermodified, is expected to compete in both the Novelis Supermodified division as well as in the NEMA Midget division driving the No. 29.
Logan Rayvals, the son of former Oswego Speedway Supermodified main event winner Craig, will also be at the wheel in the NEMA Lites division.
Last year’s NEMA competition at the Speedway saw outstanding events won by Jim Miller and Cumens.
